Hillary's Horoscope: Sun Sign

Welcome to "Presidential Destiny," a blog about fate, signs, omens, and politics.

Basically, this blog is inspired by the fact that many of our Presidents -- and many great leaders of world history, for that matter -- have had mysterious and intense beliefs in their own destiny to lead.  We will look at everything from astrology to history to psychology to wherever our path leads us as we explore the eerie intersection of fate, free will, and leadership.

Up first is an astrological horoscope of Hillary Clinton.  I am not a professional astrologer -- merely an amateur -- and I am agnostic but open minded as to its predictive power, so I will be using help (in this case, Cafe Astrology's natal horoscope chart, which I will be quoting from).  We are going to take a look at Hillary's birth stars and see how the reading matches what we know, or think we know, about her character and life so far.

Now, the key for a real horoscope is to know the date, place, and MINUTE of birth.  Many people keep their minute of birth secret, as a very good astrologer could use that information against them  (in Roman times, astrologers would often tell Emperors their exact date, and even time and method, of death -- and were very often correct).  In this case, we have Hillary on record from early in her political career saying she was born within several minutes of 8am on October 26th, 1947.  As such, I cast two horoscopes: one for 7:50am, which one astrologer claimed was the most accurate reading, and one for 8:02am, a time that was given by Hillary on another occasion.  The differences are small, and will be noted when they come up.

So, let us begin!  Basically, this horoscope will tell us where the sun, moon, and planets were located in a snapshot of the heavens at the moment of Hillary's birth, both their "houses"  (one of twelve) and sign of the zodiac.  Meanings of the houses and the signs (and also angular relationships between the spheres) will be explained as we go along.  Each post will tackle a given portion of her horoscope, and compare it to her life and character.  So, here we go, an analysis of Hillary's Sun sign, after the jump:

SUN

Hillary's sun, like everyone born in late October through most of November, was in Scorpio.  Here's what they (CafeAstrology) says about Scorpio Suns:

"Scorpios are known for their intensity. They are determined folk that absolutely throw themselves into whatever they do -- but getting them to commit to something is rarely an easy task. In fact, it's better not to even try to "get them" to do anything. Solar Scorpios absolutely have their own mind. And, their primary motivation is unlikely to be prestige (like their Capricorn friends), or even authority (Leos can have that, too)--it's real power. Their power can absolutely be of the "behind the scenes" variety, just as long as they have it.

To others, Scorpios seem to have plenty of willpower. They probably do. Scorpios do know what they want, and they won't go out and grab it at the wrong moment. They simply sit back, watch (quite expertly), and then get it only when the moment is just right. This apparent patience is simply their powerful skills at strategy at work. Scorpio isn't afraid of getting their hands (their bodies, their minds) dirty. The darker side of life intrigues them, and they're always ready to investigate.

Scorpios simply never give up. They have tremendous staying power. They're not in the slightest intimidated by anybody or anything. Confrontations are not a problem. In fact, talk to any Scorpio about their lives, and you'll probably be in awe at all they've gone through. Trauma seems to follow them wherever they go. When Scorpio learns optimism, instead of expecting the worst, they'll find that they possess amazing regenerative powers -- the power to heal, create, and transform.

Short description:

Physical energy and courage. Strong passions. Regeneration and improvement. Strong sexual powers.
Weaknesses: She is suspicious, defiant, extremist: he is sometimes vindictive."
So, what do we do with this?  One thing I like to tell people who say "oh, well, that could be true for anyone," is to ask if the opposite is true.  So, according to her Sun Sign, Hillary should be intense and have tremendous willpower.  I would say that is true.  Is the opposite true?  Not for Hillary Clinton.

Another thing that jumps out here is biding her time for the right moment.  Hillary famously refused to acknowledge she was going to run in 2016, and announced on her own timetable. Perhaps more intriguingly, there was a lot of buzz that she would run in 2004, but she worried about breaking her pledge with New Yorkers, whom she promised to serve one full term in the Senate, and also wasn't convinced the time was right.  She sat back and watched, and then chose 2008 as her moment (which, turns out, it wasn't.)

Another very-Hillary statement here is not being afraid to get dirty -- she famously gets into the mud of politics in order to get what she wants done, and as such she disappoints purer liberals along the way.  She reaches out to activists and the establishment, as well as corrupt bankers, because that's how she believes things get done.  As Secretary of State, she worked closely with esteemed figures as well as "dirtier" strongmen, such as Mubarak of Egypt. She will do or talk to whatever or whoever it takes to get something done -- even if it doesn't look very noble. That, apparently, is a very Scorpio attribute.

Also, Hillary, certainly, has never given up and has had tremendous staying power on the national political scene.  It appears that she has desired the presidency for decades, and is certainly not going to stop until she attains it.  She does, indeed, want Power, just as her horoscope says right off the bat.

Finally, "trauma" certainly has followed Hillary her entire life, from the humiliations from her husband's scandals and infidelities, to the loss of her closest friends from suicide (Vince Foster) and cancer (Diane Blaire).  Many aren't aware of how often she loses those closest to her in tragic circumstances.  Thus, she learns optimism, or hope, the hard way, and as Hillary has demonstrated in traveling the world and visiting with and finding ways to help traumatized women and children, she has found a way to use her pain to heal herself and others.  In this, she us truly a Scorpio.

But that's not all for the sun sign.  Hillary's sun is in the 12th House, the house of the subconscious, secret sufferings, fate and karma...basically where chickens come home to roost -- those sorts of things.  It is a rather dark and dangerous house, but it is also the source of change and transformations, which is strongly connected to Scoprio -- in effect, it is reinforcing her Scorpio Sun sign.  As Cafe Astrology puts it:

"You have a tendency to be introspective and need some space and seclusion in order to pull up your strength. You may avoid the spotlight, and if you do find yourself in a public role, you tend to hide your true self behind that role! Because your will is directed inwards, you need to find a path for yourself that allows you to "get away from it all" at least some of the time. Honor your need to be alone with yourself, but avoid over-identifying with your inner world to the point that you truly feel alone in a crowd. You shine when you serve others in some way. Your compassion sets you apart from others, but try to work with it rather than let your compassion work against you by reinforcing your own sense of loneliness."

"
What jumps out at me here is the way that Hillary is different from her husband: she is not a natural politician.  She does need alone time to re-charge, and is, at heart, an introverted person.  She also has had a hard time showing her true self -- which she prefers to keep private -- to the public, and has adopted a politicians persona in order to survive the decades of campaigning.  She has also shined brightest when serving others, especially her lifelong devotion to advocating for the needs of children.  She is also famous among her staff and friends for her compassion, for reaching out during hard times -- such as when she held an informal Irish wake for the staff of Richard Holbrooke after his surprise death during Obama's first term.  Many people have noted Hillary's thoughtfulness in times of need.
Hillary also has something called a "Trine" between her Sun and Uranus, which is a relationship of degrees, an "aspect," so the Sun and Uranus are about 120 degrees apart, which means:

It is natural for you to question tradition. You are, above all things, an individualist. You naturally rebel against that which is established. It doesn't mean that you consistently break all the rules, but you definitely do question some of the rules, especially those that simply don't make much sense. You possess a huge distaste for routine. You work best when you have some say as to when and how you get things done. You possess much self-integrity. You avoid labeling people and are most offended when others attempt to label or stereotype you. You easily embrace new ways of doing things, you stick up for the underdog, and you express yourself in unique and inspiring ways. You don't have to try to stand out as unique--you are original, creative, and progressive without trying. You are far from pretentious. You value honesty and truth, and you avoid putting on airs. You believe in the equality of people, and easily relate to people from all walks of life. You possess an unmistakable enthusiasm about life, and generally your life is interesting because you invite unusual or adventurous experiences into your life. You are generally appreciated by others because you are open-minded, fair, and not judgmental. Nothing really seems to faze you! You take things in stride, and are rarely shocked or taken aback by human behavior.

Well, there is certainly a lot here.  While some have criticized Hillary for being slow on questioning some traditions -- such as her slow evolution on gay marriage -- in other ways, she is what her stars say.  She is a progressive who has both been part of and questioned the establishment throughout her life.  Most tellingly, perhaps, was her Wellesley graduation speech, in which she was specially chosen by the school administration to speak, and then, after Speaker Senator Edmond Brooks made statements about Vietnam she disagreed with, took to the stage with extemporaneous remarks criticizing him -- a shocking act of rebellion that made the pages of Life magazine.  After her bold speech, she went skinny-dipping with her friends, and a school administrator -- angered by Hillary's betrayal of the school establishment -- ordered that Hillary's clothes be stolen at the water's edge!

As for sticking up for the underdog, that is essentially the point of her 2016 campaign: fighting for women, children, minorities, and the dispossessed.  As for belief in progressive goals and equality, that is certainly the case.  Enthusiasm for life is evident -- no one in public life appears to have more enthusiasm and energy than Hillary Clinton.  During the Benghazi crisis, staffers noted how unfazed she was, and how collected and cool she was during the crisis -- but not too cool, as she also expressed deep concern for the welfare of her people in danger.

And indeed, I don't think anyone can picture Hillary shocked by human behavior.  If anyone has seen it all, it is her.

Next post: Hillary's moon.
